2026 Syllabus - Classical Voice

Own choice of one selection of music must be from the Current RCM and CC syllabi.

Competitors are allowed to transpose their selections to suit their voice range.

Competitors may use one song from a song cycle as one selection but may not use another song from the same cycle as an additional selection.

Backtracks are permissible at the local level, with the understanding that should competitors continue to provincials, they will have to have live piano accompaniment to compete. 

Memorization is encouraged. To receive an award or mark, and to be eligible for provincials, memorization is mandatory. Please refer to Rules 19 – 22 for specifics.

Own choice of two contrasting selections of music must be from the Current RCM and CC syllabi, in any language. Opera, operetta and oratorio selections are permitted in Senior and Advanced levels only.  

Maximum performance time is indicated by level as follows:

·         Levels 2 to 5: 8 minutes

·         Levels 6 to 8: 10 minutes

·         Levels 9 and 10: 15 minutes

·         Pre-Diploma: 15 minutes
